Virginia man faces drug arrest; possible link to local overdoses

Facing any kind of felony charge in Virginia can be one of the most stressful experiences a person can face. The recommended sentences for non-violent drug arrest convictions are still set very high in most states. Those accused of this type of felony are often consumed by thoughts of incarceration, and what that outcome might mean for them and their loved ones.

A recent article details the arrest of a man who police claim is linked to a type of heroin that has been causing overdoses in the Richmond, Virginia, area. Police claim that they have been investigating the source of this particular strain of heroin for around three months, and eventually narrowed their focus to the suspect. Though the supposed perpetrator was arrested with a quantity of heroin on his person, he only admitted to selling small quantities of the drug. He denies that he is a large-scale dealer of the product.

One of the main pieces of evidence that police have in the case is the alleged suspect's presence at certain homes in the Richmond area where police found heroin. Despite his presence in the vicinity, this evidence may not conclusively prove his guilt. In order to be convicted, the prosecution must prove to a jury that the suspect is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

In these situations, those accused of a crime will want to ensure that their rights are protected and that they are treated fairly by authorities and the legal system throughout the process. Those facing a drug arrest may want to seek legal representation from an attorney who has experience in criminal law and defending cases involving drug charges. A Virginia lawyer may be the best place to start in order to understand local and statewide laws that may affect the outcome of a trial.
