A Grand Jury in Virginia was very busy recently. It issued indictments for 22 people in Danville, and many faced a drug arrest. The indictments were for criminal charges ranging from firearms possession to narcotics offenses. At the time of the news report, only three of the people charged remained at large.
The indictment was the result of a multi-agency investigation. The firearms accusations are said to stem from attempts to illegally obtain firearms. The drug arrests focused on criminal charges that included possession of marijuana and heroin. Only one of those arrested was transferred to federal authorities as a result of the indictment; all of the others arrested remained in state custody.
Police are continuing to search for the three who have yet to surrender. It is unclear when they expect to take them into custody or if authorities are currently aware of the location of the accused men. However, they have asked the community for assistance in finding the men.
Like others in Virginia who have faced a drug arrest or criminal charges for other incidents, those who were indicted in these cases are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law. Those who have been accused of a crime are likely focused on preparing a defense, as is their right. As they each prepare to face the court, the assistance of an experienced criminal defense attorney is a great benefit as they seek to protect their individual rights and fight for the best possible outcome.
