Pastor faces criminal charge after child porn discovery

Being arrested can be a trying time for anyone. Those who face a criminal charge for child pornography or other sex crimes related to children can have an especially difficult time when dealing with law enforcement officials and the prospect of incarceration. A recent article discusses a case in Virginia in which a pastor has been accused of using social media sites to view and distribute child pornography.

The pastor first came to the attention of authorities after they received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Allegedly, a specific internet account had been used to access a site depicting child porn images. Investigators claim that they traced the account back to the suspect, and he was recently arrested on eight counts of child pornography distribution.

According to the investigation, police began to track the internet usage for the account. Over the course of a month, the man supposedly viewed 3,000 pornographic images. Authorities further allege that some of these were images of children.

Though facing what can seem like insurmountable evidence from the prosecution, people accused of any criminal charge should have hope. The legal system is still based on the presumption that those accused are innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law. Those facing similar charges in Virginia may benefit from consulting an attorney who is experienced in criminal law. The attorney will discuss the various legal options available, and can advise the accused on the best path to take to ensure that their rights and safety are protected.
